Cecil Harrison lived in 13 Ingram Street. He had served in the Royal Flying Corps in WWI and being shot at from below, had a bullet wound to his back side. In the early sixties he used to cycle every where including once a week to Melksham to buy a leg of pork which he hung in his larder. One day while cycling across town to visit Colin Forward in Hobbes Close he had an accident and fell off his bike, he was about 69 at the time. He came down StAldhelm Road which is a steep hill and through excess speed was unable to negotiate the right hand junction into Hobbes Close; he ran wide hitting the kerb throwing him off, striking his head and was knocked out.

He was taken to Malmesbury Hospital and for the following couple of weeks, Colin used to visit him and take us children with him. Some days Mr Aylward, who drove the ambulance and lived 3 doors away, would take us in his ambulance to the hospital; where visiting arrangements were strictly two visitors only but I always managed to get in with a brother, a sister and Colin. Cecil had made other longer journeys on his bicycle one of which was to East Germany and Moscow, Russia. About a year after his accident Cecil was found early one morning by Richard Williams, a school friend of my younger brother, and aged about 6 or 7 at the time, who was walking his dog on the railway at Baskerville; Cecil was hanging from the Baskerville foot bridge over the railway track having committed suicide, attributed to the head injury.
